Stay Your Way

Whether you prefer the comfort of our cosy, self-contained eco-cottages or the adventure of sleeping beneath the stars at Camp Coodlie, our property provides a unique base for travellers, campers, photographers, wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts. Camp Coodlie is an off-grid bush campground located within the property’s natural coastal mallee environment. It operates with solar power, low-impact amenities, compost toilets, recycling and composting facilities, and no permanent general-area lighting. Coodlie eco-cottages offer a comfortable place to relax while still allowing guests to experience the peaceful atmosphere, wildlife and natural beauty of our remote location.

Sustainability at Coodlie

Sustainability is at the heart of how we operate and across the property we work tirelessly to reduce waste, conserve water where we can and protect native vegetation and wildlife habitat. We believe sustainable tourism should help protect and improve the places people come to experience.

Our sustainability practices include:

  • Camp Coodlie operates primarily using off-grid solar power, providing recycling, composting and worm-farm facilities and maintaining compost toilets and low-impact bush amenities.

  • Encouraging mindful use of water and energy and reusing, repairing and repurposing materials wherever practical.

  • Supporting revegetation and natural regeneration.

Protecting Our Dark Sky

Coodlie Park is home to exceptionally dark night skies, with consistent Bortle Class 1  conditions and zero light-pollution. Sky Quality Meter readings of approximately 21.8 magnitudes per square arcsecond reflect the outstanding natural darkness experienced across  Coodlie Park.

These conditions make Coodlie Park an ideal destination for:

  • Stargazing.

  • Astrophotography.

  • Viewing the Milky Way.

  • Meteor shower observation.

  • Aurora photography.

  • Learning about planets, constellations and the wider cosmos.

Protecting the night sky is an important part of our environmental commitment and we maintain Camp Coodlie without permanent general-area lighting to minimise unnecessary lighting,. Guests are encouraged to use red-light torches after dark where possible. Our lighting practices are designed to reduce sky glow, protect human night vision and minimise disruption to nocturnal wildlife. Coodlie Park is committed to raising awareness about the importance of natural darkness through guest education, community engagement and responsible astrotourism and we aim to help people understand how artificial light affects the night sky, the wildlife, ecosystems, our human health and our connection with the natural world. We believe dark skies are a natural and cultural resource worth protecting for future generations.

Nature, Wildlife and Astrotourism

Coodlie Park is home to a wide range of native wildlife, including endangered Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats, kangaroos, emus, birds, reptiles and nocturnal animals. We want each stay to be more than simply a night away and our goal is to help every guests slow down, connect with the natural environment around them and to leave with a stronger understanding of why places like Coodlie Park deserve to be protected.

Our approach to regenerative astrotourism brings together:

  • Dark sky protection.

  • Wildlife conservation.

  • Sustainable accommodation.

  • Environmental education.

  • Low-impact visitor experiences.

  • Support for the local community and economy.

  • Ongoing care for the land.
