Our Commitment

Coodlie Park Eco Retreat welcomes guests of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. As a rural eco-retreat located on a 500-acre property on South Australia’s West Coast Eyre Peninsula, some areas of the property have natural, uneven or unsealed surfaces. We encourage guests with accessibility requirements to contact us before booking so we can discuss their individual needs and help them choose the most suitable accommodation or experience. We are committed to providing honest and practical accessibility information so guests can make informed decisions before travelling.

Getting to Coodlie Park

Coodlie Park Eco Retreat is located at: 21423 Flinders Highway, Talia SA 5670

 

The property is situated between Venus Bay and Elliston on the West Coast of the Eyre Peninsula. Coodlie Park is in a remote rural location and is most easily accessed by private vehicle. Public transport and taxi services are limited or unavailable in the immediate area. The property is accessed from Flinders Highway and internal access roads and parking areas are predominantly unsealed and may include gravel, compacted earth, loose stones, dust, mud or corrugations depending on weather conditions. Guests should contact Coodlie Park before travelling if they have concerns about vehicle access.

 

Parking

Parking is available near the Eco-Cottages, office and accommodation areas. Parking surfaces are generally unsealed and may not be completely level. There are currently no formally marked accessible parking bays. Guests with reduced mobility may contact management before arrival to discuss the closest available parking position for their accommodation or activity. Vehicles may need to travel along unsealed internal roads to reach different areas of the property.

 

Reception and Check-In

The Coodlie Park office is open: Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

Guests arriving outside office hours can access check-in information through the QR code located near the entrance wheel post or office window. Guests who may have difficulty using a QR code, mobile device or online check-in system should contact us before arrival. Alternative instructions can be arranged where possible. Staff can provide verbal directions and assistance with locating accommodation and facilities.

 

Property Terrain and Pathways

Coodlie Park is a nature-based rural property with predominantly natural surroundings.

 

Guests may encounter:

• Gravel and compacted-earth roads.

• Uneven ground.

• Loose sand, stones or vegetation.

• Changes in surface level.

• Unsealed paths.

• Limited lighting at night.

• Natural hazards such as tree roots, wildlife and insects.

 

There are no continuous sealed pathways connecting all areas of the property. Some outdoor areas may not be suitable for standard wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking frames or guests who have difficulty walking over uneven ground. Conditions can change following rain, strong winds or other weather events. Guests are encouraged to ask about current ground conditions before travelling.

 

Eco-Cottages

Coodlie Park has two self-contained Eco-Cottages:

• Piccadilly Eco-Cottage (Accessible)

• Coodlie Eco-Cottage.
   

The cottages are located within the main accommodation area and have vehicle parking nearby. Guests with mobility requirements should contact us before booking so we can provide current photographs and discuss:

• Entrance steps, thresholds or changes in level.

• Doorway widths.

• Internal circulation space.

• Bed heights and bedroom layouts.

• Bathroom access and available space.

• Shower, toilet and kitchen facilities.

• The most suitable cottage for their needs.
   

Camp Coodlie Off-Grid Bush Campground

Camp Coodlie is an off-grid bush campground located approximately two kilometres from the main homestead area. Access is along an unsealed internal road.The campground covers a large natural bush setting with dispersed camping areas. Ground conditions vary and may include compacted earth, sand, gravel, vegetation and uneven surfaces. Guests with mobility requirements are encouraged to contact us before booking. Where practical, management may be able to suggest a camping area closer to shared amenities.

 

Camp Coodlie is not a purpose-built accessible campground. Guests should be aware that:

• Campsites are not individually paved or levelled.

• There are no formally designated accessible campsites.

• Pathways are generally unsealed.

• There is no permanent general lighting.

• Facilities may be some distance from individual camping areas.

• Mobile telephone coverage may be limited.

• Drinking water is not supplied.

• Guests must bring their own drinking water.

• The campground does not provide powered sites.

• Weather conditions may affect access and ground surfaces.
   

Swag Huts

Camp Coodlie has timber Swag Huts designed to provide simple shelter and sleeping accommodation above the ground. Guests using wheelchairs, mobility aids or walking frames should contact us before booking a Swag Hut.
 

The huts were not designed as accessible accommodation and may have:

• Narrow entrances.

• Raised thresholds or steps.

• Limited internal movement space.

• Low sleeping surfaces.

• Uneven ground around the entrance.

Campground Amenities

Camp Coodlie amenities includes:

• Composting toilets.

• Bucket-style showers.

• A shared camp kitchen.

• Outdoor seating and communal areas.

• Seasonal firepit areas.
   

These facilities are rustic and off-grid. They are not currently purpose-built to accessible standards. Access may involve uneven or unsealed ground, and some facilities may have steps, thresholds, narrow access points or limited internal space. Guests requiring an accessible bathroom, roll-in shower, fixed shower seat, grab rails or specialised toilet facilities should contact us before booking, as these facilities may not be available.

Stargazing Experiences

Coodlie Under the Stars is an outdoor guided stargazing experience held under naturally dark skies. The experience may involve:

• Walking over unsealed or uneven ground.

• Low-light conditions.

• Remaining outdoors for approximately 90 minutes.

• Exposure to cold, wind, insects or changing weather.

• Looking upward for extended periods.

• Bright astronomical objects or laser-pointer demonstrations.

• Spoken commentary and video content.

Seating is provided for participants. Guests who require a particular type of chair, additional back support or space for a mobility aid should contact us before attending. The viewing area is intentionally kept dark to protect night vision, wildlife and the natural night sky. Red lighting may be used for safety. Guests with low vision, reduced night vision or balance concerns should advise the tour guide before the experience begins. Assistance may be available when moving to and from the viewing area. Guests who are sensitive to darkness, flashing imagery, laser pointers, sound or outdoor conditions are encouraged to contact us before booking. The tour is delivered primarily through spoken commentary. Guests with hearing requirements should contact us before booking so available communication options can be discussed.

 

Nocturnal Wildlife and Outdoor Tours

Nocturnal wildlife, sunset and property tours may travel through natural bushland or along unsealed tracks. Depending on the tour, guests may need to:

• Enter or exit a vehicle.

• Walk short distances over uneven surfaces.

• Remain outdoors in darkness or changing weather.

• Travel over corrugated or unsealed roads.

• Sit or stand for periods of time.

Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Guests with mobility, sensory or medical requirements should contact us before booking so the suitability of the tour and vehicle can be discussed.

Lighting and Low-Vision Considerations

Coodlie Park is a dark-sky destination. Outdoor lighting is intentionally limited to reduce light pollution and protect nocturnal wildlife.

There is no permanent general lighting within Camp Coodlie. After dark, guests may encounter very low-light conditions between accommodation, vehicles and shared facilities. Guests are encouraged to:

• Bring a red-light torch or headlamp.

• Carry a backup torch for emergencies.

• Move slowly on unfamiliar ground.

• Familiarise themselves with facilities before sunset.

• Ask staff for assistance where needed.

 

White lighting should be kept to a minimum and switched off when it is no longer required. Guests with low vision or difficulty navigating in darkness should contact us before arrival.

 

Assistance Animals

Accredited assistance animals are welcome at Coodlie Park Eco Retreat.

Please advise us before arrival so we can help plan for your visit.

Coodlie Park is a working rural property with domestic animals, livestock and native wildlife. Assistance animals must remain under the control of their handler. Guests should be aware of:

• Livestock and farm animals.

• Free-ranging native wildlife.

• Snakes and other reptiles.

• Uneven natural terrain.

• Limited access to veterinary services.

• Long travel distances between regional services.

 

Water, bedding, food and waste-disposal supplies for assistance animals should be brought by the guest unless alternative arrangements have been confirmed.

 

Support Persons and Carers

Support persons, carers and companions are welcome. Standard accommodation and tour charges may apply. Guests should contact us before booking to discuss arrangements for support persons, carers or companion-card holders. Where practical, staff will work with guests to identify reasonable options for participation.

 

Hearing and Communication

Guests who are Deaf, hard of hearing, non-verbal or who have other communication requirements are encouraged to contact us before arrival.

Information can be provided in writing by email or text message where practical. Mobile reception may be limited in some areas of the property, particularly within the campground. Guests should download or save important booking and check-in information before travelling.

Emergency instructions and property information are generally provided through a combination of signs, written information and verbal communication.

Sensory Considerations

Guests with sensory sensitivities are welcome to contact us before booking. Quieter accommodation periods or locations may be suggested where possible, but cannot be guaranteed. Coodlie Park is generally a quiet rural environment; however, guests may experience:

• Animal noises.

• Wind and weather sounds.

• Insects and wildlife.

• Farm machinery or maintenance activity.

• Other guests within shared areas.

• Very dark conditions at night.

• Smoke from permitted seasonal campfires.

• Uneven or unfamiliar natural surroundings.

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

The Eco-Cottages and Coodlie House contain self-catering kitchen facilities. Breakfast baskets and selected food or drink items may be available by prior arrangement. Guests with food allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements must advise us before ordering food. While reasonable care can be taken, Coodlie Park cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment. Guests with severe allergies should bring any required medication and discuss their needs with management before travelling. The property is surrounded by native vegetation and is home to animals, insects, dust and pollen.

 

Medical Services and Emergency Planning

Coodlie Park is in a remote regional location. Medical, hospital, pharmacy and emergency-response services may be some distance away (Elliston 30 minutes / Streaky Bay 45 minutes) Mobile reception may also be limited in parts of the property.
 

Guests should:

• Bring sufficient prescription medication.

• Carry any required medical equipment.

• Inform a support person of their travel plans.

• Consider whether the remote location is suitable for their health requirements.

• Notify management of information that may be important in an emergency.

• Follow all fire, weather and emergency instructions.
   

In an emergency, call 000 where telephone service is available. Guests with significant medical or accessibility needs are strongly encouraged to contact us before booking.

Service Limitations

Coodlie Park Eco Retreat is a small, independently operated rural business. We will make reasonable efforts to assist guests; however, due to the natural terrain, existing buildings, remote location and off-grid facilities, we may not be able to accommodate every accessibility requirement.

Providing information before booking allows us to give guests the clearest possible advice about whether a particular accommodation option, campground facility or tour will be suitable.
