Camp Coodlie is our peaceful off-grid bush campground, set among coastal mallee bushland on South Australia’s West Coast Eyre Peninsula. Designed for travellers who love nature, space, simplicity, and a true back-to-basics camping experience, Camp Coodlie invites you to slow down, switch off, and embrace nature’s playground.

Located between Venus Bay and Elliston, our campground is a relaxed base for exploring nearby beaches, rockpools, caves, coastal cliffs, sand dunes, conservation parks, fishing spots, and some of the most breathtaking dark skies in Australia.

This is not a caravan park. Camp Coodlie is a rustic, off-grid bush campground where the experience is intentionally simple, sustainable, and connected to the land. There are no powered sites, no manicured lawns, and no city-style facilities. Instead, you will find wide open skies, natural surroundings, peaceful campsites, communal spaces, bush amenities, and the kind of quiet you only get when you step away from the rush.

What to expect

Off-grid bush camping with spacious unpowered campsites and off-the-ground wooden swag huts.

Camp Coodlie is fully off-grid, with a focus on solar power, rainwater use, composting, recycling, and low-impact camping. Guests are encouraged to tread lightly, respect the land, and enjoy the simplicity of sustainable bush camping.

Our campsites are unpowered and set within a natural bushland environment. Sites are suitable for tents, swags, camper trailers, rooftop tents, vans, and small self-contained setups.

Communal camp kitchen

Guests have access to a shared camp kitchen with practical cooking and washing-up facilities. This space is designed for simple camp meals, gathering with fellow travellers, and enjoying the relaxed campground atmosphere.

Bush bucket showers

Camp Coodlie features rustic bush bucket showers, offering a simple and memorable off-grid shower experience. Guests collect water, fill the bucket, hoist it in the shower cubicle, and enjoy a back-to-basics wash under the stars or after a day exploring the coast.

Compost toilets

Our campground uses compost toilet systems as part of our commitment to reducing water use and operating more sustainably. These facilities are simple, practical, and suited to off-grid camping.

Firepits and campfire areas: Individual and communal firepit areas are available when conditions allow. Fires are subject to seasonal restrictions, local fire danger ratings, and total fire ban days.

Fire restrictions apply from October to April.
Swag huts
For guests wanting a simple camping-style stay without setting up a tent, our off-ground timber swag huts offer a rustic shelter option. These are basic, off-grid, and designed for travellers who want the feel of camping with a little extra structure around them.

BYO essentials
As Camp Coodlie is an off-grid bush campground, guests should come prepared. Please bring your own drinking water, toilet paper, food, torch or headlamp, warm clothing, camp gear, and personal supplies.

No powered sites or dump point
Camp Coodlie does not offer powered sites, greywater dump facilities, or RV tank filling. Guests with vans or RVs should arrive prepared and self-sufficient.

Pet-friendly camping
We welcome well-behaved pets at Camp Coodlie. Pets must remain under control, be cleaned up after, and be respectful of other guests, wildlife, and farm animals.

Peaceful bushland surroundings
Wake up to birdsong, watch the light move through the mallee, and enjoy the quiet beauty of nature. The campground is surrounded by open skies, native vegetation, wildlife, and plenty of space to breathe.

Incredible dark sky viewing
On clear nights, Camp Coodlie becomes a front-row seat to the universe. Our Bortle Class 1 dark skies offer spectacular views of the Milky Way, constellations, planets, satellites, meteor showers, and, when conditions align, the Aurora Australis.

Access to Coodlie Park experiences
Guests can book seasonal experiences such as guided stargazing, astrophotography sessions, nocturnal wildlife walks, animal feeding experiences, and other nature-based activities, depending on availability and weather conditions.

Important things to know
Camp Coodlie is rustic, natural, and intentionally low-impact. Facilities have been built with intention using recycled oyster timber and other materials creating a simple but sustainable shared communal area.
​
As an off-grid bush campground, guests are required to bring their own drinking water and toilet paper.
​
There are no powered sites, no greywater dump point, and no RV tank-filling facilities available at Camp Coodlie. ​
​
